Mind over matter, matter over mind?

Something Corey said during our concert yesterday stuck in my mind (just something, everything else he said went in one ear and out the other); he said something to the affect of "where you're heart is, there you're thoughts will be also". It really made me think. Today I had a sudden occurence of how that might relate to every day life; the music you listen to, the movies you watch, the tv shows you watch, the things you talk to co-workers or strangers about; all these things consume your thoughts, whether concious or unconcious, it's there. So your actions consume your thoughts, and ultimately your thoughts control your actions; so starting at square "A" your thoughts are driven by actions "x", the actions of "x" give you thoughts of "1" degree, be it good or evil, it could be watching the daily news, what your pastor says on Sunday, or listening to a song on the radio; with me so far? Ok, good! While you're at square "A", it may be completely fine, but even the slightest thoughts resulting in action "x" could drive you to square "B"; you may or may not even be aware that you've moved from square "A", but because of actions "x" your thoughts are now up to 1.5 degrees.

Now these "degrees" I speak of represent what your thoughts are on your actions, it could be the jokes you laugh at while youre watching Two and a Half Men, or it could be what you think of the band playing the song on the radio, "that joke was mildly inappropriate, but its context and content made it very funny; that song had a good beat, I like this band: Square "B". While you're at 1.5 degrees, hardly any change has occured in your life, but even the slightest change in the degree of your thoughts can result in the frequency of actions "x", which may lead to actions "y" and "z" on square "F" at "7.8" degrees, which is ultimately far away from your acceptable level of degrees while you were on square "A" when you might not have considered actions "y" or "z". Pretty soon you could be at 20 degrees and be oblivious to what square you're even on any more. So, what exactly are you saying, Phil? I'm glad you asked! What I'm saying is, no matter how much you think a little action will do (or not do), everything in your life affects your thouhts. We, as christians, need to be in control of our thoughts at all times! God has done so much for us to be careless with the mind and body we have been given. We should try our best to funnel our thoughts and actions to those things with are good and acceptable in HIS eyes, now this is the important part, "HIS" eyes, remember how your thoughts and actions go hand in hand, if you rely on your own eyes to judge what is good or bad you may find that your thoughts and actions have given you a skewed perception of what might be right in HIS eyes. So weigh your life on his scale and always consider where your life is headed!

So lets review: your thoughts control your actions, your actions control your thoughts, square "A" is where we want to be, actions "x, y, and z" are what we want to control in order to prevent our degrees from rising exponentially without realization resulting in us being on square "F" where we otherwise may not have considered actions "y and z" at square "A". So think about the things in your life, the things you do, the things you think about, and evaluate where your goals are. Truly be honest about your goals and how your actions affect them, because no matter what you think, they will affect your life to some degree; consider your enemy, he is no fool, he's been at it for thousands of years and has learned that the best way to lure his prey away is little by little, then before you know it your miles away from home in a trap being led to the slaughter. So lets evaluate our lives, make your actions positively influence your life for Christ so we can get back to square "A"!

I just found your site so this is a little late. The Holy Spirit has been teaching me this for months. Our mind is the battlefield where either Christ wins or the devil does. We slip little by little, if we arent' careful. Thank you for the continued reminder! And God bless the group. You are truly a blessing!
